Facebook has recently honoured a man who belongs to Manipur for detecting a WhatsApp Bug. This Bug was voilating the privacy of the users.

Zonel Sougaijam, who is a 22-year-old civil engineer, claimed that the Facebook company has awarded USD 5000 to him and also included his name in the ‘Facebook Hall of Fame 2019’, for detecting the WhatsApp bug.

Currently, Sougaijam’s name is listed at the 16th position, in the ‘Facebook Hall of Fame’ for 2019. The total names in this list are of 94 people.

“During a voice call through WhatsApp, the bug used to allow the caller to upgrade it to a video call without the authorization and knowledge of the receiver. The caller was then able to see what the other person was doing, violating the privacy of the receiver,” Sougaijam told PTI.

After noticing the bug, he reported the matter to Bug Bounty Program of the Facebook, which is responsible for handling matters of violation of privacy, in March.

He said that his report was acknowledged by the Facebook Security team on the second day and the technical department fixed the issue within 15-20 days.

In an email to Sougaijam, Facebook wrote “After reviewing this issue, we have decided to award you a bounty of $5000,”

Zonel Sougaijam has also claimed that he has seen his name in the Hall of Fame 2019 list of Facebook.
